Required Payment of Overtime to Exempt Employees Put on Hold

A new regulation issued to require the payment of overtime to certain exempt employees has been put on hold by a federal court. Scheduled to take effect December 1, 2016.

U.S. Department of Labor-issued rule provided that anybody making a salary of less than $47,476 would automatically qualify for overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours a week (see “New Federal Rules Expand Overtime Pay to More Workers” in the June 2016 edition of this newsletter). The court ruling has been appealed but it is uncertain whether the Trump administration will pursue the case. COA will keep members informed as developments unfold.
