Meet a Legislator This Holiday Season

Relationships that individual doctors make with lawmakers are invaluable in optometry’s multifaceted program to protect the gains optometry has made over the decades and keep the doors open for future progression. Holiday parties offer opportunities for ODs to show support for their legislators in their districts – and in some instances, provide support to their communities. With the investment of a small amount of time, you can create – or bolster - your relationship with your legislators. To be a trusted source of information about eye care for a lawmaker can influence his or her decisions about your profession for decades to come.

With the holiday season well underway, legislators are celebrating by hosting events in their districts. The party themes include toy and food drives, collecting blankets and coats, and even bringing new ideas for legislation to “hang on the tree.” COA-member doctors of optometry from across the state have taken time out of their busy schedules to attend these festive events for lawmakers in an effort to promote optometry – and perhaps bring a smile to child on Christmas morning.
