Step up for your profession – register for COA’s Legislative Day

A ‘call to action’ has been issued to all California ODs for this year’s COA Legislative Day.

Why is this year so important?

2015 is a particularly critical year for the optometric profession given the number and substance of legislative issues being considered by state lawmakers. It is very important to your profession and its future, along with your practice, that you register now for COA Legislative Day, April 21, 2015, in Sacramento.

Among the issues before legislators that they personally need to hear from you on are:

  • LensCrafters: Ensure the independent clinical judgement of optometrists to do what is in the best interest of the patient in a retail setting.
  • Increasing Access to Health Care: COA-sponsored bill that would expand services that doctors of optometry can provide.
  • Medi-Cal: Restoration of Medi-Cal coverage for adult eyeglasses and low vision aids, along with elimination of the 10 percent reduction in provider rates.
  • Comprehensive Eye Exams for Children: Legislation to require all children to get a comprehensive eye exam before entering school.
  • Contact Lenses: Opposition to any effort to allow a contact lens retailer to substitute a contact lens brand or prohibit optometrists from selling or dispensing contact lenses in their own offices.

When: Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 7:30 am – 4:30 pm

Where: Tsakopoulos Library Galleria, 828 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814

Who: All California doctors of optometry and optometry students welcome

What: To educate our lawmakers on the scope of practice that California ODs provide and how it improves patient care and outcomes.

2015 could change optometry in California – will you be a part of it?
