AOA and CDC join in campaign to promote contact lens safety

In an historic partnership, AOA has teamed with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to educate the public on the proper wear and care of contact lenses with the CDC's Contact Lens Health Week, August 24-28, 2015

Themed “Healthy Habits Mean Healthy Eyes,” the campaign targets teenage contact lens wearers – though the messages are relevant to all wearers – to encourage healthy habits that start early. CDC has a wide assortment of free patient education materials on safe contact wear and compliance, including toolkits, apps, podcasts and social media messages, printable posters, website buttons and banners, etc. Contact lens health messages cover three key areas:

  1. Healthy contact lens hygiene habits
  2. Proper use, care and storage of contact lenses and supplies
  3. Regular visits to an eye care provider

Finally, CDC has developed a website featuring a wealth of resources to promote healthy contact lens wear.
