Service contracts/warrantees
You may have received a notice from the Department of Consumer Affairs stating that if you sell service contracts for optical products, you must register with the Bureau of Electronics & Appliance Repair, Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation (BEARHFTI). This regulation only applies to those doctors of optometry who sell service contracts (or warrantees) separate from their other fees. Prior to this law (AB 2111 of 2010), you would have been required to be licensed by the Department of Insurance to offer insurance because these warrantees were technically insurance products. If you have any questions regarding this issue, please contact Kristine Shultz. |
