Medicare Updates – Recalcitrant providers
Recalcitrant Provider Procedures
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is instituting new penalties for providers and suppliers who abuse the Medicare program. These penalties include civil monetary penalties and/or exclusion from the Medicare and state health care programs.
Over time, CMS has heard from contractors that some providers have been abusing the Medicare program and that even after educational efforts have not changed their behavior. Change Request (CR) 8394 refers to how Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) will address recalcitrant providers and suppliers through these new monetary penalties.
