VSP will cover Google Glass

In a recent New York Times report, Google has reached a deal with Vision Service Plan (VSP), the largest optical health provider in the US. VSP will "offer subsidized frames and prescription lenses for Google Glass," eye wear that connects to the internet. According to the paper, the two companies have been working together to train optometrists to learn how to "mount the Glass device on frames and fit people’s faces."

The relationship could take the device from a coveted tech rarity to the mainstream. The subsidies would make the internet-connected eye wear more affordable. This cooperation also embeds technology into the health care system, which, the report says, could make it easier for other small computers in things like teeth or tattoos, to become a reality in the near future and for them to be sold to the mass market.

Google plans on selling Google Glass to the public beginning this year. Google Glass is smart eyewear designed to let you stay connected to the world around you. With the explosion of wearable technology, Glass is on the cutting edge.

Glass is currently available through the Glass Explorer Program. Glass Explorers are a group of diverse and creative individuals who have become active participants in shaping the future of this new technology.

From the beginning, Glass was designed to be modular, so you can make it your own. You can choose your color and add a variety of frames, lenses, and shades to customize your look.

So what’s next for Glass? Many VSP network providers have hands-on experience with this innovative technology and have started offering prescription lenses to Glass Explorers. Interested in buying Glass? Visit www.google.com/glass/start/how-to-get-one/to learn more.
