Local Legislative Days 2014: A Big Success

Doctors of optometry and optometry students joined forces to advocate for COA-sponsored SB 492, the bill that redefines the practice of optometry, on February 21 and February 28. They successfully met with legislators and their staff members across the state in district offices. About 150 individuals participated in this important event for optometry, including individuals who had never met their legislator before as well as experienced lobbyists for optometry. Van Kochkarian, second year student at WesternU, said this about his experience at COA Local Legislative Days: "It was my first time going and it was more exciting than I expected. Our group ended up speaking to Senator Carol Liu for about 25 minutes regarding SB 492." (picture included below)
