COA honors Woody Strode for Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, COA, along with the California Legislative Black Caucus, launched an advertisement to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Woody Strode’s birth.

Strode, who died in 1994, was a Californian who led the way for integration of the NFL. He was also a renowned actor.

The advertisement, featuring the voice of Assembly Member Cheryl Brown, ran on Sacramento TV stations through the month of February. Assembly Member Brown was also interviewed on a live broadcast of Sacramento & Company, a News 10 show, to talk about Strode and how he inspired Californians in every walk of life. She also mentioned the importance of the California Optometric Association in the interview. The California Legislative Black Caucus and Assembly Member Brown are sharing the video with the rest of the Legislature as well.
