SB 622 passes out of Senate with bi-partisan support!

After receiving a favorable write-up in California Healthline early this week, SB 622, Hernandez, COA’s scope of practice legislation, was brought up for a vote on the Senate Floor Friday morning. We are pleased to announce, with supportive commentary from two Republican Senators, the bill ultimately passed out of its’ house of origin on a 33-4, bi-partisan vote!

This result would not have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of optometry’s entire team including, in no small part, our grassroots network of Key Persons who logged many emails, letters, phone calls and meetings with your Legislators. Thank you for all your work to help SB 622 get to this point!

While this is a wonderful way to begin a long weekend, our work is far from over. As 622 enters the Assembly, we’ll need to work even harder to ensure the bill continues making its’ way through the lower house. Please sign up to meet with your lawmakers in your area about this bill and COA’s other legislative priorities during COA’s Local Legislative Days (see article about Local Legislative Days in this issue of Government Affairs Weekly). Also, keep your eyes on your in-boxes for the latest updates and action alerts!
