100 – What Do I Do Doc? Cases From the Phone (TPA)

About this course

Using case examples, this course will review commonly prescribed oral medications used for various ocular infections, inflammatory conditions and pain. Common side effects of oral medications will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

1.  Understand the limitations of diagnosing from a photo or
     triaging a call.

2.  Clinicians will learn, using case examples, how
challenging a photo maybe in diagnosing a patient.

101 – Challenging Cases from Front to Back (TPA)

As ODs we tend to separate the front of the eye from the back of the eye. However, there are conditions that affect the eye from the anterior to posterior. This course will use cases examples to illustrate how, as ODs we need to treat the whole eye.

Learning Objectives:

1. Differentiate when flashes and floaters are a true ocular
   emergency.

2. Clinicians will learn the uses and advantages of amniotic
   membranes in a  optometric setting.

3. Learning strategies to  help diagnose and differentiate
    common  vascular  retinal conditions.

4. Understand the importance of early treatment and
    diagnosis of viral  conditions.

5. Differentiate common secondary glaucoma diagnosis
   and treatment strategies.

6. Learn the advantages of managing with a retinal center
   and  co-management of ocular conditions.

102 – Infectious Disease 101 (TPA)

About this course

Infectious retinal diseases are devastating, as they can to lead permanent visual field and acuity loss. They can be due to a variety of causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and can be found not only in immune competent patients, but also, at times more frequently, in immune-comprised patients such as those with advanced acquired immune deficiency syndrome AIDS. Many of these conditions are potentially blinding, therefore early diagnosis, testing, and treatment are vital. This lecture will focus on select conditions that can manifest in the retina with a discussion on pathogenesis, signs symptoms, testing, and treatment.

Learning Objectives:

 1.  Recognize the epidemiology, causes, and pathophysiology
     of varied infectious retinal diseases.
2.   Analyze and contrast  signs and symptoms associated with
     each retinal condition.
3.   Produce an appropriate  management plan based on exam
     results.

103 – Optic Nerve Disorders (TPA) About this course

Optic nerve disorders are infrequently encountered, however
clinician must be able to properly diagnose and treat them to prevent unnecessary testing and possible vision loss. This course will review
several opticnerve disorders with discussion on differential diagnoses, treatment, and management.

Learning objectives:

1. Introduce several optic nerve disorders with
    discussion on, epidemiology, cause, and
    pathophysiology.
2. Understand, interpret, and distinguish the common signs
and symptoms associated with each condition.
3. Prepare how best to manage these conditions based on
clinical examination findings and ancillary testing.
