Contact lenses & cosmetics

With a little practice you will find that putting in your contact lens is a quick and easy part of your morning routine. These simple tips will help you wear contacts safely and comfortably without making you late for the rest of your day.

Put your soft contact lenses in before applying makeup. This way, watery eyes won’t cause your makeup to run.

Choose your mascara wisely: avoid lash-extending types because they have fibers that can irritate your eyes and also avoid waterproof mascara because it may stain contact lenses.

Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before putting in lenses, especially if you’d just handled any of your liquid makeup or lotion. Use hand creams or lotions afterwards to avid getting product into your eyes and causing extreme irritation or leaving a nasty film on your lenses.

When blow-drying hair, blink your eyes frequently to protect eyes from getting too dry. Try to use hairspray before you put in your contacts, but if you forget, close your eyes during spraying and for a few seconds afterwards.

Choose water-based, hypo-allergenic liquid foundations because cream makeup may leave a film on your lenses.

Cosmetics with harsh chemicals like false eyelash cement, nail polish and remover, perfume and cologne can all damage the plastic in contact lenses. Keep them far away!

Lastly, remove lenses before removing makeup. This way watery makeup won’t get onto them.
