AOA wants you to join the conversation about diabetes awareness

Doctors of optometry nationwide are joining together to spread the word about diabetes and its effect on eye health for American Diabetes Month®. Diabetes affects about 1 in 12 Americans so the American Optometric Association (AOA) is encouraging all members to become involved.

This month is an official health observance sponsored by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), which is dedicated to increasing the public’s understanding and awareness of one of the nation’s biggest health concerns and also to promote wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle.

AOA has compiled a member-specific list of ways that its doctor members can be involved in the dialogue.

How AOA is getting the message out

To help spread the message, AOA will have a full-page ad about the importance of regular comprehensive eye exams in ADA’s major diabetes awareness campaign and Take Charge! magazine. The magazine will be distributed around mid-November as an insert in 1 million copies of newspapers in the top 10 markets nationwide.
